Vista Tether Instructions

Initial Configuration

Prerequisite:

      - Bluetooth signal must be turned on both on your BlackBerry and on your PC

      - Remove pairing on both devices if already paired

1. Disable DUN (Dial-Up Networking)

Go to the "Manage Connections" page on your BlackBerry and select "Bluetooth Connections".  Press the BlackBerry MENU key and select Options to bring up the Bluetooth Options page.  Make sure "Dial-Up Networking" is NOT checked.  Save the changes.

2. Start DUN service on BlackBerry

Start Bluetooth Tether Bridge, press BlackBerry MENU key and select "Start-DUN" command.  Press BlackBerry ESCAPE key (NOT the Close command) to leave it to run in background.

3. Start bluetooth pairing on BlackBerry

Go to the Bluetooth page and click "Add New Device" to bring up the "Add Device" pop-up.  Select "Listen" (not "Search").

4. Start bluetooth pairing on PC

Click the bluetooth icon in the Sytem Tray and select "Add a Bluetooth Device".  Select your BlackBerry from the list of bluetooth devices it has found and click "Next".

5. Confirm pairing code on BlackBerry and PC

6*. Automatic connection attempt from your PC

This may or may not happen depending on the history of bluetooth device configurations on your PC.

If your PC makes an automatic connection attempt, a permission window will pop up on your BlackBerry. Check "Don't display this prompt again" to avoid this in subsequent tether sessions and click "Yes" to accept the connection attempt. Go back to the Bluetooth Tether Bridge app on your BlackBerry and you will find the connection has failed.  Just exit from the app.  On your PC, it may pop up a window to ask you to select whether to enter dial-up credentials.  Click "Yes" in this case.  On the "Connect BluetoothConnection" window, leave User name and Password both empty, and enter "*99#" without the quotes for Dial.

Tether Operation

On BlackBerry:

1. Start Bluetooth Tether Bridge on your BlackBerry and wait for the Internet connection indication to turn on (the phone and the globe are joined by an edge)

2. Press the BlackBerry MENU key to bring up the command menu and select the "Start - DUN" command

On PC:

3. Attempt a connection from PC

Double click on the bluetooth icon and select your BlackBerry device from the list of bluetooth devices on the Bluetooth Devices window.  Click "Connect".  On the Connection window leave both the Username and Password empty, enter (or leave) "*99#" without the quotes for Dial and click the "Dial" button.

4*. The first time you tether, a permission window will pop up on your BlackBerry.  Check "Don't display this prompt again" to avoid this in subsequent tether sessions and click "Yes" to accept the connection attempt. The very first connection attempt may fail and you just need to try the whole process again.
